Fans of Oxford Schools 'Tagged' to Share Pride
For many in Oxford, the school system is a real point of pride. Supporters are quick to mention the A-rating in academics from the state and multiple champion sports teams as evidence of thriving schools. Now, some of OSD’s biggest fans have a new way to sport the school colors on their cars.
“The OSD license tag campaign is a way for the Oxford community to support our local school system,” said Betsy Smith, board member for the Oxford School District Foundation (OSDF). “Buying a plate with an O-bolt logo is a perfect way to show your Charger pride.”
The OSDF is working to pre-sell 300 of the specialty car tags by the end of April. Once the foundation meets that goal, the Oxford schools’ license tag will be an option for anyone who registers a car in the state.
The “O-bolt” logo is featured in the tag design – something a lot of Oxford Charger fans can get excited about.
“All we need are four pieces of information from anyone who signs up – their name, county of residence, address and current tag number,” Smith said.
The tag itself costs $31, but $24 of that money will come back to the OSDF and then find its way into Oxford classrooms via the annual Awards for Teacher Innovation. Oxford school teachers apply for grants that pay for teaching tools the district wouldn’t normally be able to afford.
OSDF gives out the innovation awards every spring. Last year’s winners purchased math learning kits, hands-on science kits and ceramic sculpture equipment, just to name a few of the projects. This year’s grant applications are due in March.
OSD Superintendent Brian Harvey says it would be great to see supporters of the school system all across the state.
“If we could make a push statewide for grandparents and other family members to purchase our license plates that would be tremendous. I can’t think of a better way to advertise that there is still support for quality public education,” said Harvey.
