Oxford, Mississippi: the New Silicon Valley?

Published

Earlier this week, an article was released in the Social Times claiming that to start a business, you don’t need to venture to the City that Never Sleeps or to Silicon Valley to be successful.
And what quaint southern town made it on the list? Our own Oxford, Mississippi.

Oxford has always been known for its Southern hospitality. The University of Mississippi put Oxford on the map and people have been flocking to Mississippi ever since. The great university opened in 1848 and is recognizable across the country.

The new shopping center off Jackson Avenue will be opening January 2015, bringing new restaurant and shopping options to students and residents of Oxford.
Pam Swain, the Vice President of the Oxford-Lafayette Chamber of Commerce said that Oxford is a good place to start a business because, “Oxford has the perfect package of food and culture to attract people. The university also plays a big part in bringing people to Oxford. When there is a game weekend or a big event going on, businesses are successful.”
images“People love to come to Oxford for shopping and restaurants. Even those who are residents of Oxford love to explore the community and we are very fortunate to have the community that we have. The people of Oxford love new things (shopping and restaurants),” Swain added.
Oxonians are fabulous at supporting the local shops and restaurants that come and go from our town. We are always eager to see what comes next, and sad when one of our favorite places has to go. But as times keep changing, our Southern hospitality will be ready to welcome any newcomers that settle down in Oxford, Mississippi.
