Pi Phi Parents Weekend Brings Happy Families to Oxford

Published

on

Every year many sororities and fraternities across campus choose a football weekend to welcome family and friends, and this past weekend was my Pi Beta Phi’s parents weekend. Even though we didn’t defeat Auburn like we hoped, it was still a weekend filled with fun.

IMG_4232My weekend began with taking my parents to the Square, where we went in search of some Ole Miss apparel for a family friend who is an Ole Miss fan. I also was in search for something warm to wear to the game. After looking at the weather and seeing that it was going to be the coldest game we have experienced this fall, I was in desperate need of a new dress. I also should have gotten a jacket, as well as some gloves and maybe a hat or blanket to keep warm.
Although my parents have visited Oxford in the past, I still wanted to show them my town through my perspective. My parents were craving good Southern food, so naturally we went to Ajax for lunch and attempted to eat at Boure for dinner. Without preparing for the massive crowds, we ended up eating at the Oxford Grillehouse, which was just as delicious.
Before dinner, my parents and I took a tour of campus on one of the famous Double Decker buses. This was an event put on by Pi Beta Phi, and it was a great way to show off the beautiful campus. It was a bit chilly once the sun went down, but the bus was filled my friends and family. We all laughed and had a great time meeting everyone parents and siblings or saying hello to acquaintances.
As a pre-game brunch, my parents and I indulged in a big, bad breakfast at the one and only BBB. With our bellies full we then ventured to campus, where I gave my parents tour of the Pi Beta Phi house and then we headed to the Grove.
Once we got to the Grove, my dad was snapping pictures to show his friends from home how we have the best tailgate in the South. We first went to the Pi Beta Phi tent, where we met more parents and friends. We then walked around the Grove in search of a friends tent were met up with old friends and talked about our game predictions and caught up on life.
IMG_4233We then returned to the Pi Phi tent, where we piled our plates high with our famed Grove food. After making a plan to meet up after the game, I parted from my parents to go into to the stadium, where we watched a devastating loss.
Sunday morning bright and early, Pi Beta Phi put on a brunch in our house. My parents and I had some magnificent food, such as shrimp and grits, egg casseroles, mini pecan pie, and much more. We then drove up to Memphis to spend the afternoon. We stayed at the Peabody Hotel, and got a taste of what Tennessee is like.
I had a great weekend with my parents. It is so nice getting to show off what is like being a student at this great University. My parents thought that Texas was Southern until we visited Ole Miss, and now our definition of Southern has completely changed.
