The highly anticipated wait is finally over tonight to hear what the new college football playoff format is going to look like when the committee unveils the Top 25 potential teams for the offseason tonight at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN.
We bid farewell to the BCS era last year at the National Championship when Florida State defeated Auburn. Since then, people have been looking toward the unveiling of the four-team playoffs system for the national championship where the committee of twelve members will select their Top 25 with Nos. 1 through 4 being the potential teams in the playoffs if the season were to end today.
Fans have been calling into sports talk shows for days asking who they think will be the final four teams, hoping their team or conference can do better than the ever-dominant Southeastern Conference, which has won seven out of the last eight national titles when FSU ended the SEC streak.
Division I football has never been in a situation for a playoff where is the basis of their formula going to come from. The committee is made of up 12 members from across the country, mostly consisting of athletics directors and former coaches as well as Condoleezza Rice. They all have to be prepared to come together to come up with the best playoff for this inaugural season.
If they where to look at the AP poll or the coaches poll numbers one thru four could look like this with No. 1 Mississippi State, No. 2 Florida State then the other two could be a whole possible seniarios of who might be three and four. With six weeks remaining in this season numbers 5-12 will be joking for the last two playoff spots.
With the loss in Death Valley this past weekend, Ole Miss will probably drop out of the Top 5 but stay strong in the Top 10. With only one loss the Rebels still control their own destiny.
