Besides the usual ice-cold beer, salty fries, and good friends one typically runs across at Proud Larrys’, this weekend’s music lineup offers some good options.

The Devil Makes Three – Thursday, January 24

Laced with elements of ragtime, blues, country, folk and rockabilly, this critically praised, drummer-less trio—consisting of guitarist/front man Pete Bernhard, stand-up bassist Lucia Turino, and guitarist Cooper McBean—brings forth a genuine approach to acoustic music. The sound is deeply steeped in rhythm and alive with three part harmonies, while keeping a slightly punk aesthetic to their music and especially their live shows.

Bass Drum of Death – Friday, January 25

Oxford-bred Bass Drum of Death began as John Barrett recording as a one-man-band, playing bass drum and guitar. Currently, Colin Sneed plays drums, and they’ve become visible nationally. Let’s let the visceral qualities of their music speak for themselves:

“Some people think I play blues because of my work with Buddy Guy. Some people think I play vaudeville because of my time with Squirrel Nut Zippers,” Mathus says. “Some people think I play ‘You Are My Sunshine’ for tips because they see me play it at a catfish house. Most people have no idea what I really do. Mostly I play what I want and right now I play with Tri–State Coalition: Matt pierce from Arkansas, Terrence Bishop from Tennessee, Eric Carlton, and Ryan Rogers from Mississippi. Together we made The White Buffalo.”
