This past Saturday, Ole Miss senior Senquez Golson secured the 23-17 victory over then-No. 1 Alabama in the Vaught with an interception in the end zone with only 38 seconds left to go in the game (because everything this season is revolving around the big 38).
The Rebels defense is one of the top three in the country and doesn’t allow opponents to score very many points in a game. Ole Miss is averaging 2.5 interceptions a game so far on the season, and the Landshark defense has held its opponents to 10.2 points per game.
Golson is near the top of the list leading the nation in interceptions with 10 for his four-year career and four this year alone.
After the game, coach Hugh Freeze discussed how much of a leader Golson has become this season, such as when he stands up on the podium in the locker room to hype up his team before taking the field.
In his freshman season, the Alabama Crimson Tide came into Oxford led by Heisman hopeful Trent Richardson, and on one play late in the game, Richardson juked Golson out of his shoes to score a touchdown. Golson took a bad angle on the play back then, but he redeemed himself and deflated Alabama’s momentum with a last-minute interception against the dreaded Crimson Tide to secure a victory for the Rebels.
Golson is a sufficient part to the Rebel secondary and a true leader for the team. When they take the field in College Station against Texas A&M on Saturday, look for the Landshark defense to continue to be very dominate in Aggieland.
