Had a great Magic Mushroom pizza at Soulshine last night and then the kids and grandkids and I headed over to Holli’s Sweet Tooth so they could get their candy fix and explore previously uncharted realms of hyperactivity.
This was my first time in Oxford’s version of Willy Wonka’s magic candy factory and it really was a delightful experience. Not so much because I’m a big candy lover anymore — ice cream is my weakness and Holli’s offers the real stuff as opposed to frozen yogurt, which is kind of analogous to low-fat pecan pie as far as I’m concerned. What’s the point?
Anyway, the colors and varieties of chocolates, hard candies and sugary/salty treats in Holli’s is enough to make you dizzy as y’all well know because the place is a true institution on the Square right up there with Square Books. And like in the bookstore, you really have a lot of choices to further tax your brain, not to mention a sweet dream fest of sensory worm holes that transport you instantly back to the candy store counter you bellied up to before school when you were 10.
Well, that happens if you’re my age and you know what candy cigarettes and licorice lips are.
