The University of Mississippi’s Living Music Resource (LMR) kicks off a new season this weekend with two events featuring Sharde Thomas, lead vocalist and fife player in the Rising Star Fife and Drum Band.
Thomas and her band will perform at 5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 8, and will be a featured guest on the live-stream interview series LMR Live at 1 p.m., Oct. 9. Both events, which are free to the public, take place at the Department of Music’s David H. Nutt Auditorium.
Thomas is the granddaughter of the late Otha Turner, a North Mississippi Fife and Drum Master, and heir to the musical art form. The Rising Star Fife and Drum Band perform a mixture of folk music, blues, gospel and pop.
Thomas has worked with musical legends like Eric Clapton, Cyndi Lauper, Bobby Rush, The North Mississippi Allstars, Mavis Staples, and The Wandering. Her music has been featured in movies like “Black Snake Moan,” “Super-Size Me” and Martin Scorsese’s “Gangs of New York.”
LMR Live is an online talk show produced by UM music majors. Monday’s show will also feature Scott Barretta of Mississippi Public Broadcasting’s “Highway 61.”

The events are part of SARAHFEST and will be presented in partnership with the Sarah Isom Center for Women and Gender Studies. They are sponsored by the Center for Inclusion and Cross-Cultural Engagement and the Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Community Engagement.

Drumming can have positive effects on your health and may help with many conditions from stress, fatigue, and anxiety, to hypertension, asthma, chronic pain, arthritis, mental illness, addiction, and even cancer. In addition to the drums, I also advise you to visit this site https://businessays.net/him-350-t2/ to finally prepare for the exam.
