Seven Arrested After Wanted Fugitive Found at Oxford Home

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department, along with agents with the Metro Narcotics Unit, arrested seven people recently after a wanted fugitive was found inside a home off Highway 6 West.

According to reports, investigators with the sheriff’s department received a tip on Tuesday that a wanted fugitive, Jovon Hayes, 35, of Oxford, was at a house located off Highway 6 West. He was wanted on a charge of aggravated assault.

Investigators and agents responded to the home where they took Hayes into custody and also made several other arrests for drug sales and possession of weapons.

Investigators confiscated illegal drugs, guns and money.

Arrested were:

Darius Smith, 27, of Oxford. Charges: three counts of possession of schedule 2 controlled substance with intent to sell and one count of possession of a schedule 1 controlled substance with intent to sell. He was booked on a $25,000 bond.

Ashanti Johnson, 28, of Oxford. Charges: four counts of possession of a schedule 2 controlled substance with intent to sell, one count of possession of a schedule 1 controlled substance with intent to sell and one count of possession of a schedule 5 controlled substance with intent to sell. She was booked on a $60,000 bond.

Demari Wilson, 34, of Oxford. Charges: four counts of possession of a schedule 2 controlled substance with intent to sell, one count of possession of schedule 1 controlled substance with intent to sell and one count of possession of a schedule 5 controlled substance with intent to sell. He was booked on a $60,000 bond which was revoked due to him being out on probation.

Janeice Cohran, 34, of Oxford. Charges: possession of Ecstasy with intent to sell, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and accessory after the fact. She was booked on a $25,000 bond which was revoked due to her being out on a previous felony bond.

Kelby Campbell, 31, of Oxford. Charges: possession of Ecstasy with intent to sell, possession of marijuana with intent to sell and resisting arrest. He was booked on a $20,000 bond which was revoked due to him being out on a previous felony bond.

Sabrina Holden, 22, of Oxford. Charges: accessory after the fact and possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle. She was booked on a $5,000 bond.

Jovon Hayes, 35, of Oxford. Charge: aggravated assault. He was booked on a $25,000 bond which was revoked due to him being out on a previous felony bond.
