Oxford School District to Add Four Additional Pre-K Classrooms

With the new Central Elementary School opening in August, the Oxford School District will be able to add four additional pre-K classrooms in the 2020-2021 school year.

The district will be offering approximately 200 spots to children in the Oxford community. Last year, Bramlett offered 126 seats and had a waitlist of more than 60 students when the school year began – the largest group turned away in the district’s history.

“The citizens of Oxford made this possible when they voted in 2017 to fund a new elementary school,” said OSD Superintendent Brian Harvey. “With Central Elementary School opening in August 2020, all first graders will move to Central Elementary instead of being spread over two campuses. This opens up much-needed space for Pre-K at Bramlett. We are not mandated to offer a PreK program but we do so to invest in early childhood learning that is vital to student success. Early childhood learning benefits our whole community.”

Bramlett’s Pre-K program is a free full-day program, where students participate in a variety of activities designed to stimulate social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth through learning experiences designed to prepare them for kindergarten.

To qualify for the Bramlett Elementary’s Pre-K Program, students must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2020, and live in the Oxford School District. Pre-K registration will open online Monday, March 2, 2020, at 8 a.m. and will close on Friday, March 6, 2020, at 4 p.m. Parents will be notified of acceptance on Monday, April 6, 2019.

Students with an identified need for a preschool program are placed in the program first. Remaining slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis as determined by their online application timestamp. Children of district employees are given waitlist priority as an incentive for working in the district.

“Because our application process is online, we take extra steps to communicate about our Pre-K program in our community,” said Public Information Officer Heather Lenard. “We cannot reach everyone with digital communication, so we invest in printed materials for community organizations like the Oxford Housing Authority, the Boys & Girls Club and the LOU Collaborative. It is important that all residents have access to information on programs offered by our district.”

The OSD Registration Office offers computer assistance during registration.
