Former Ole Miss head coach Matt Luke has landed on his feet a week after being let go from the Rebels.
The Georgia Bulldogs announced on their Twitter page Tuesday that Luke had been hired as the associate head coach and offensive line coach for the Bulldogs. He is taking over for Sam Pittmann who was just hired as the Arkansas head coach.
“We are extremely excited and fortunate to have Matt join our staff,” head coach Kirby Smart said in a statement about Luke. “He’s a proven football coach who has a wealth of experience on the offensive side of the ball, especially in the offensive line. He has a great reputation among those who have played for him and it’s obvious watching his teams over many years that players love him and play hard for him.”
For the last three seasons, Luke had been at the helm of his alma mater (one as the interim). His tenure came to a close after the 21-20 loss to Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl. Ole Miss finished with a 4-8 overall record and a 2-6 mark in the SEC. Luke finished with a 15-21 overall record.
The Rebels hired former Florida Atlantic Owls head coach Lane Kiffin on Saturday to replace Luke and is the Rebels’ 39th head coach.
The news spread quickly Tuesday morning and the majority of the replies to the tweet were favorable toward Luke being hired.
