Just south of Oxford, a pro-business advocacy group calling itself “Discover Taylor” has been formed hoping to inform people about existing businesses in Taylor as well as reasons for businesses to consider locating in Taylor.
Taylor is home to more than 15 businesses, almost all of which are owner-operated.
“There is a lot more going on in Taylor than most people realize,” said spokesperson Campbell McCool. “So, a group of business owners in the Taylor area decided that together we could make more noise than any of us could individually. It is only 4 miles from the Oxford city limits to the Taylor city limits and there are some pretty cool things going on in the Taylor area.”
The group is in its early stages and is open to any local businesses that wish to join and help in spreading the word about the community. They have formed a Facebook page and plan to launch an Instagram and Twitter to help get the word out.
Initial members of Discover Taylor include Taylor Grocery, Paragon Bank, Old Taylor Antiques, The Taylor Inn, Wonderbird Spirits, Niett Metals, Frameblender Films, Grit, A&N Catering, Plein Air, Lost Dog Coffee, Oxford Psychological at Plein Air, Bill Taylor C.P.A., Darby Optometry, Falkner Farms and Keith Stewart Pottery.
Over the course of the next few months, the group will be highlighting individual members of Discover Taylor, announcing group events and communicating facts about the Taylor area that are not commonly known.
By sharing information through social media, press releases, and other forms of communication, the group hopes their efforts will help the local economy and support local businesses.
“I hope we can make more people aware of things going on here, that way more people will come and shop here, look at the businesses here, and grow our community,” McCool said. “I think people will be surprised when they realize not only how many businesses are located in Taylor, but also the range and diversity of the types of businesses here.”
