Ole Miss defeated the California State University at Bakersfield Roadrunners 83-67 on Saturday inside the Pavilion.
“We desperately needed a win,” head coach Kermit Davis said. “We needed to win a game. I think everybody knows we had a four-game stretch of clear opportunities.”
Ole Miss (6-3) was led on the floor in scoring by sophomore Blake Hinson with 23 points.
Four other Rebels joined Hinson in double digits — Breein Tyree (20), Devontae Shuler (15), Khadim Sy (10) and KJ Buffen (10).
“Breein (Tyree), I thought that was the best he’s played so far. Just like a good college guard, the ball just moved out of his hands,” Davis said.
Ole Miss shot for 58 percent from the floor against CSUB.
CSU Bakersfield was led by the trio of scorers in Taze Moore (17 points), Czar Perry (16 points) and Shawn Stith (15 points). Moore and Stitch brought down five rebounds apiece to pace the Roadrunners, while Perry added a team-high eight assists.
The Roadrunners outrebounded Ole Miss 32-23 in the game.
“(CSUB) killed us on the glass. They are a really good rebounding team,” Davis said.
Ole Miss returns to action next Saturday in the Pavilion against Middle Tennessee State at 2 p.m. on the SEC Network.
