Oxford Crime & Emergency Reports from Nov. 8-11, 2019

The following reports were made Nov. 8-11, 2019, by city, university and county law enforcement agencies, unless otherwise noted.

Oxford Police Department issued 91 tickets, investigated 27 wrecks and the following reports:
11 alarms
3 ambulance assists
5 animal complaints
8 careless driving complaints
2 civil matters
16 disturbing the peace complaints
3 domestic disturbances
1 fire department assist
2 harassments
9 improper parking complaints
2 larceny assists
4 lost properties
3 malicious mischief complaints
2 motorist assists
1 other agency assist
1 property damage
2 recovered property
3 scams
2 shopliftings
1 simple assault
6 suspicious activities
7 suspicious people
5 suspicious vehicles
1 vehicle check
8 welfare checks

Officers made the following arrests:
3 DUIs and careless driving
1 DUI and speeding
1 DUI, seat belt violations and K9 search
1 DUI and expired tag
1 disorderly conduct
1 disturbing the peace
1 indecent exposure
1 no driver’s license and no insurance
1 minor in possession of alcohol and littering
5 public drunks
1 public drunk and disturbing the peace
3 public drunks and fake ID
1 public drunk and harassing a public service animal
1 public drunk and simple assault
1 shoplifting

Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department investigated four wrecks and the following reports:
1 simple assault
4 agency assists
5 alarms
5 animal complaints
4 civil matters
1 death
1 disturbance
2 domestic violence complaints
2 follow-ups
2 harassments
4 informational reports
1 juvenile complaint
1 littering/dumping
2 noise complaints
1 petty theft
2 reckless driving complaints
5 road obstructions
21 service calls
3 suspicious activities
3 suspicious persons
2 suspicious vehicles
4 transports
8 welfare concerns
5 service process

Deputies made the following arrests:
1 DUI-second and driving while license suspended
1 possession of drug paraphernalia
1 possession of marijuana

University Police Department investigated one wreck and the following reports:
6 wrecks
2 reckless driving complaints
1 credit card fraud
1 fire alarm
1 vandalism
2 ambulances needed
1 disturbance
1 fire alarm
1 disturbing the peace
1 harassment
1 intoxicated person
1 grand theft
1 possession of drug paraphernalia

Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls:
11/08 – 7:49 a.m. – 252 Hwy. 314 – chimney fire – creosote buildup – extinguished the fire
11/08 – 8:48 a.m. – Vaught Hemingway Stadium – west skybox third-floor – smoke detector malfunction
11/08 – 2:17 p.m. – Harrison Square – parking area – water flow alarm due to moving truck hitting a sprinkler head activating the system
11/08 – 3:24 p.m. – Tennis Facility – turned the heater on for the first time activating the heat duct detector
11/08 – 4:43 p.m. – Thacker Road / Hwy. 6 – wreck with injuries – provided first aid until EMS arrived
11/08 – 7:16 p.m. – Oxford High School – pull station fire alarm malfunction
11/09 – 3:32 and 7:08 a.m. – Crosby Hall 10th floor hallway – smoke detector malfunction
11/09 – 6:27 a.m. – 611 Commerce Parkway – cooking activated the smoke detector
11/09 – 1:49 p.m. – Residential Hall 3 – medical call – monitored until EMS arrived
11/09 – 1:19 p.m. – Stockard Hall – fire extinguisher prank
11/09 – 1:34 p.m. – Crosby Hall – someone stuck on an elevator and having a panic attack – removed subject
11/09 – 8:01 p.m. – 1616 Pierce St. – smoke detector malfunction
11/10 – 12:32 a.m. – The Hub – someone pulled and broke a pull station fire alarm as a prank
11/10 – 7:37 a.m. – Fulton Chapel – dumpster on fire – extinguished
11/10 – 10:11 a.m. – Texaco University Ave. – subject with chest pains – EMS already on scene upon arrival
11/10 – 12:51 p.m. – Kroger – someone fell in produce – monitored until EMS arrived
11/10 – 12:59 p.m. – Super 8 – male with chest pains – monitored vitals until EMS arrived (very intoxicated)
11/10 – 6:36 p.m. – 1301 Haden Drive – hole in the gas tank of a Plymouth Charger – firefighters stopped the leak
11/11 – 5:42 a.m. – The Domain – resident left a candle burning and it activated the smoke detector
11/11 – 11:40 p.m. – The Marks Bldg. 26 Apt. 6 – oven element burned into causing a small fire in the oven – fire out before FD arrived
