There are only 10 days left to submit an application to be a part of this year’s City of Oxford Christmas Parade, presented by the North Central Mississippi Realtors.
The parade will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 2. The cost to enter a float is $25 for private companies and individuals. Nonprofit groups and schools do not pay the registration fee.
Checks should be made out to NCMR; cash is not accepted.
Parade applications can be picked up at Oxford City Hall on the Square or at North Central MS Realtors office at 1202 Office Park Drive, Suite C, or at the Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce.
They can be downloaded from www.oxfordms.net or www.usamls.net/ncentral and turned in at any of the three sites.
Only 75 entries are being accepted for this year’s parade so get those applications submitted.
This year’s theme will be “Winter Wonderland.”
The parade route will follow the same as last year’s route, which changed after 40 years due to the parade’s growth.
Parade participants will gather on University Avenue between Old Taylor Road and 5th Street, which will be closed to traffic. The parade will continue down University Avenue to South Lamar Boulevard and travel around the east side of the Square, down North Lamar Boulevard to Price Street where it will officially end; however, floats will continue to the Oxford Activity Center parking lot to be dismantled and where participants can be picked up.
The entire length of the parade route is 1.7 miles.
Floats will be judged and prized will be awarded to first, second and third place as well as Best Unique Vehicle and Best Live Performance Group.
An organizational meeting will be held for those who signed up to be in the parade at 6 p.m. on Nov. 25 at the Oxford Conference Center where parade organizers will answer questions and go over the process.
In case of bad weather, the parade will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 3.
