Ole Miss volleyball returns to action Wednesday as they travel to Columbia, Missouri to take on the Missouri Tigers. The Rebels will be putting an 11 match win streak on the line. First serve is set for 7 p.m. on the SEC Network.
Ole Miss (11-3, 3-0 SEC) found itself at 42nd in the first official RPI ranking that came out on Monday. The Rebels are coming off back-to-back road wins over Mississippi State (3-2) and LSU (3-1).
“It was a great weekend being able to go on the road and win at Mississippi State and LSU. [That was] big time for our team,” Ole Miss head coach Steven McRoberts said.
Senior outside hitter Emily Stroup is inching closer to becoming the all-time kills leader in the program’s history. She currently has 1,332 kills and only needs 82 more to reach that goal.
“(Stroup) is digging double digits every single match. She’s just a workhorse coming into the gym once, twice a week for extra reps. That’s the type of player she is,” McRoberts said.
Missouri enters the week ranked No. 22 in the country – the first Top 25 squad the Rebels will face in league play. The Tigers are coming off a 2-0 week, sweeping LSU last Wednesday before grinding out a come-from-behind five-set thriller Sunday against Texas A&M. Junior outside hitter Kylie Deberg leads the league with 243 kills, having turned in five consecutive performances with 20 or more. Mizzou enters Wednesday with a league-best .316 hitting efficiency, a stat that ranks them third in the country.
“(Missouri) is another great program, well-coached. I don’t know if we’ve won there since I’ve been here so it’s going to be tough,” he said. “It’s going to be a challenge, so hopefully we can keep this consistency.”
Ole Miss and Missouri will be meeting for the 20th time in the all-time series. The Tigers lead the series at 14-5 over the Rebels. Last season, Mizzou swept Ole Miss 3-0 in Oxford.
