IHL Chooses its Former Commissioner as Next UM Chancellor
The Mississippi Institutions for Higher Learning (IHL) is selecting Dr. Glenn Boyce as UM’s next chancellor, sources close to the process confirm with Hottytoddy.com.
Boyce left the IHL four months ago where he served as the commissioner. Sources say he will be publicly announced as chancellor Friday, Oct. 4 at noon at the Inn at Ole Miss.
The IHL’s spokeswoman did not respond to phone calls, emails or text messages concerning the appointment and UM Communications said they have nothing official to say Thursday evening.
College Board President Hal Parker confirmed to AP reporter Jeff Amy in May that the university’s private foundation hired Boyce to meet with “influential individuals” about qualities they’d like to see in the university’s next chancellor.
“They’ve engaged him to go out and talk with the Ole Miss community, to go out and talk with people to see what they want in a chancellor,” Parker told the AP.
Boyce received his bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Mississippi, a master’s degree in education administration from Mississippi College and a doctorate in education leadership from the University of Mississippi.
The IHL selected Boyce as commissioner in 2015 and, after a four year stint, he resigned in June of 2019. He served as president of Holmes Community College for nine years, starting in 2005.
Boyce is a former assistant superintendent for secondary programs for the Rankin County School District and high school and attendance center principal of the Northwest Rankin Attendance Center, according to the Mississippi Business Journal.
He is married and has three daughters.
