The Lafayette Commodores welcome the Horn Lake Eagles to William L. Buford Stadium Friday night for their home season opener. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
“It looks like it’s going to be a good game and we expect big crowd,” head coach Micheal Fair said.
Lafayette (2-0) has been on the road for the first two weeks of the season. Last Friday night, the Commodores rallied against the Southaven Chargers in the second half to come from behind for a 20-16 win. Coach Fair’s team kept the Chargers off the scoreboard for the final 24 minutes of action.
Fair said the coaching staff saw their players fight through adversity last Friday that will help prepare them for the remaining tough schedule.
“Our coaching staff did a tremendous job at halftime working through some adjustments,” he said. “When you make adjustments, your kids have to buy in and trust their coaches. They did that.”
Horn Lake travels to Oxford with a mark of 1-1 on the season and is coming off of a 7-6 victory over Cleveland Central last Friday night.
“(The Eagles) are improving each week and have some really good players,” Fair said. “They are really coached up and fundamentally sound in all three phases of the game.”
Horn Lake is the defending 6A state champion.
“It will take a good effort to get past them this week,” Fair said.
