The Ole Miss soccer team is off to a fast start on the season, sitting at 3-1 after defeating SEMO (2-0) and Minnesota (3-2 2T) last weekend.
“It was a good weekend for us,” head coach Matt Mott said at his press conference Monday.
Junior Channing Foster netted both goals against SEMO to give the Rebels the victory. Coach Mott picked up his 100th career win at Ole Miss after being at the helm for 10 seasons.
“It’s special certainly. I think being here to start my 10th season is pretty awesome,” Mott said. “We only play about 18 games per year, so to get to that point is a pretty proud moment. I think it is a reflection of the entire university and the support that we get. We are supported really well with soccer and that is something that has helped us get this milestone.”
On Sunday, the Rebels battled back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Minnesota in the second overtime.
“I liked the way the team fought under difficult conditions on the second game of the weekend,” Mott said. “I think it sets us up well as we look towards the future and it will give them some confidence.”
This weekend, Ole Miss plays on the road against Western Kentucky and Murray State on Thursday and Sunday.
“(They are) two very good teams playing very well this year,” Mott said. “Our team is in a good spot and we look forward to a good week of practice.”
