Rebel fans were relieved to see senior offensive lineman Alex Givens on the field this past weekend after recovering from preventative surgery in the off-season.
Givens missed the majority of fall camp after recovering from lower back surgery on July 18. The Nashville, Tennessee native returned to full practice last Tuesday.
In the 15-10 loss to Memphis, Givens was on the field for more than 40 snaps. After Tuesday’s practice, he talked to members of the local media about his experience.
“I felt good. I was a little tight in the first half, but loosened up and started playing good,” Givens said.
Coming into the game, the coaching staff said they planned to keep him on a snap count of 20 or 30, but they allowed him to keep playing after evaluating his back. On Sunday, Givens said he was a little sore from not working out but is ready to start back.
Depending on how practice goes this week for Givens, he may see limited field time against the Arkansas Razorbacks in the SEC home opener at the Vaught. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. on SEC Network.
