With the new parking garage slated to open at the end of the month, the Oxford Board of Aldermen, at the recommendation of the Downtown Parking Advisory Commission, has set the type of parking permits to be sold, their cost and as of Tuesday, how many will be sold.
However, how they will be sold and when has yet to be decided.
On Tuesday, during the Board of Aldermen’s regular meeting, the board voted to allow a total of 240 parking permits to be sold.
There will be two types of permits available – standard and premium – and the two types will come with two options of hours – either 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, or Monday-Saturday 10 a.m. to midnight.
A standard permit for weekdays only will be $50 a month and the “all-access” standard permit will be $70 a month. The price for a premium permit for weekdays only will be $80 a month. A premium permit “all-access” will be $100.
Parking Director Matt Davis said 30 standard and 30 premium permits for the Monday-Friday “weekday only” hours will be sold, and 90 standard and 90 premium all-access permits will be available for purchase.
There are currently 399 available parking spaces that permit holders will be able to choose from to park.
“We will revisit this monthly and review the demand and sales of each permit type,” Davis said.
Premium permit holders will be able to park in any spot that is not metered, including all surface lots that will eventually be 75 cents an hour to park via a kiosk and on the first floor of the new parking garage.
Standard permit holders will be able to park in the lots behind City Hall, in the former DHS lot and the surface lots around the parking garage.
Parking on the second, third and fourth floors of the parking garage will be free.
