Oxford Crime & Emergency Reports from Aug 30-Sept. 2, 2019

The following reports were made Aug. 26, 2019, by city, university and county law enforcement agencies, unless otherwise noted.

Oxford Police Department issued 84 tickets, investigated 19 wrecks and the following reports:
2 911 hang-ups
13 alarms
4 ambulance assists
2 animal complaints
3 careless driving complaints
2 civil matters
1 credit card scam
14 disturbing the peace complaints
1 elderly assist
1 harassment
6 improper parking complaints
2 larcenies
2 lost properties
1 malicious mischief
1 motor assist
2 open doors
1 recovered property
1 simple assault
8 suspicious activities
2 suspicious people
1 trespassing
3 vehicle searches
8 welfare checks

Officers made the following arrests:
2 burglaries with no driver licenses
2 for DUI and careless driving
2 for DUI, careless driving and no insurance
1 DUI and speeding
1 open container, possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle, seat belt violation and K9 search
1 possession of a schedule 2 drug, no tag, suspended license and no insurance
1 possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle
2 for public drunk
2 for shoplifting
1 simple assault
1 simple assault and trespassing
1 warrant served, suspended driver’s license, expired tag and speeding

Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department investigated six wrecks and the following reports:
3 agency assists
6 alarms
5 animal complaints
1 residential burglary
7 civil matters
8 disturbances
8 follow-ups
1 harassment
1 information
2 juvenile complaints
2 noise complaints
1 petty theft
5 reckless driving
11 service calls
2 suspicious activities
4 suspicious persons
2 suspicious vehicles
8 transports
14 welfare concerns
9 service process

Deputies made the following arrests:
1 DUI and careless driving
1 no driver’s license and no insurance
1 weapon possession by a felon
2 for domestic violence with simple assault
1 disorderly conduct

University Police Department investigated four wrecks and the following reports:
1 petty theft
1 ambulance needed/intoxicated person
1 possession of alcohol (housing)
1 simple assault
3 loud music
1 intoxicated person
1 malicious mischief
1 medical call
1 harassment
1 medical call

UPD made the following arrests:
1 posession of drug paraphernalia and driving on wrong side of the road
1 public drunk

Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls:
8/30 – 11:08 & 12:53 p.m. – Phi Beta Phi house – vent-a-hood alarm malfunction
8/30 – 4:30 p.m. – Oby’s – flower bed fire – out before FD arrived
8/30 – 8:31 p.m. – Hwy 7 South close to Soccer Fields – wreck with injuries – EMS already on scene
8/30 – 10:41 p.m. – Sigma Chi house – smoking activated a smoke detector
8/31 – 2:59 – ATO House – someone accidentally set the fire alarm off, someone at the house had already reset the alarm
8/31 – 6:32 a.m. – Oxford Health & Rehab – a resident pulled a fire alarm
8/31 – 8:40 a.m. – BMH – call canceled
8/31 – 9:37 a.m. – 800 A Brittany Dr. – minor fire on the stove – FD removed smoke from the home
8/31 – 10:48 a.m. – Stewart Hall – someone stuck on an elevator
8/31 – 12:06 p.m. – Gillom Sports Center – call canceled
8/31 – 4:41 p.m. – North Residential College – burned food activated a smoke detector
9/01 – 1:13 a.m. – The Hub – subject passed out – monitored until EMS arrived
9/01 – 1:40 p.m. – Hwy. 7 S and CR 414 – wreck with entrapment – no entrapment
9/01 – 5:09 p.m. – Heritage Park Apts. – had a call for a lift assist
9/01 – 8:57 p.m. – 1103 Front St. – carbon monoxide detector malfunction
9/02 – 3:50 p.m. – Turner Center – smoke detector malfunction
9/02 – 4:32 p.m. – 1205 Azalea Cove – smoke detector beeping – replaced the battery
9/02 – 5:14 p.m. – Walmart Parking lot – minor wreck – no injuries
9/02 – 10:03 p.m. and 2:53 p.m. – Firehouse Subs – employees cleaning accidentally bumped into a pull station fire alarm
9/02 – 22:51 p.m. – South Residential College room 419 – burned food activated a smoke detector
