The Ole Miss Rebels football team finished up fall camp on Friday and now turn their attention to opening game week against the Memphis Tigers on Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m. at the Liberty Bowl Stadium.
Ole Miss had their final fall camp scrimmage Saturday, and head coach Matt Luke said that a lot of the players were flying around and excited about not hitting on each other.
Last season, Ole Miss finished with an overall record 5-7 and replaced their offensive and defensive coordinators.
The Rebels lost Jordan Ta’amu at quarterback as redshirt freshman Matt Corral will be up under center. Corral played in four games last season, as he passed for 239 passing yards and carried the ball for 83 yards.
Coming into the Memphis game, the first question is about the health of senior offensive lineman Alex Givens.
“[Givens] is doing a bunch of walkthroughs and conditioning stuff,” Luke said. “It will be Tuesday or Wednesday before we can integrate him.”
Opening up against the Memphis Tigers brings excitement to the program as it is a big fan base for the Rebels, Luke said.
“With location and how close it is… it is very important to us,” Luke said. “We have a lot of respect for [Memphis] as a team as coach Norvell has done a great job.”
Memphis can run the ball and the quarterbacks are very accurate, according to Luke. The Tigers defense has a lot of returners to the field.
“We are just really excited to get out there and go play and excited about game week,” Luke said.
Fans can watch all the action on ABC or listen to the game on the Ole Miss Radio Network.
