Democratic candidate Jeff Busby, 53, seeks appointment as Lafayette County’s next Circuit Court Clerk.

Jeff Busby. Clerk.

He is a lifelong resident of Lafayette County and an Oxford High School and University of Mississippi graduate. He has been married to his wife, Kristin, for 21 years and they have three children together. He and his family attend First Baptist Church.

His community involvement is extensive. He currently serves as a Lafayette County Supervisor for District 2 and has served as board president for the last eight years.

Busby said his interest and passion to pursue the position of Circuit Clerk is because of his mother, who served as Lafayette County’s representative for 24 years from 1988-2012.

“I did not want to follow directly in my mother’s footsteps at the time for several reasons,” he said. “Primarily, I first wanted to prove myself in another area of our county government which I have for the past eight years.”

His mother’s deputy circuit clerk and current circuit clerk, Baretta Mosley, stepped in to run for the position. Now that she is no longer seeks re-election, Busby said it was now his time.

“I felt this was the perfect time to fulfill a dream of mine,” he said.

One major issue Busby said he’s devoted to improving in Lafayette County is voter turnout.

“I would like to work closely with the election commissioners, the school systems and other local organizations to promote the importance of voting and also encourage people to vote,” he said.

He said no matter the task, he will always put the people of Lafayette County first in every decision and work daily to make the circuit clerk’s office one of the best in the state of Mississippi.

Busby’s opponent and fellow Democratic candidate, Karen Borden, also seeks election as Lafayette County’s Circuit Clerk; however, she did not respond to interview requests.

No Republican or Independent candidates have qualified to run for Circuit Court Clerk.
