The time for school to start back is right around the corner, and to help area students and teachers Community Church Oxford is hosting their fourth annual Back to School Bash from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Old Armory Pavilion.
“At Community Church, we really do strive to be the hands and feet of Jesus by getting out and trying to meet the need where we see it. Even if we only helped one family, all the planning and funding that goes into making this happen would still be worth it,” Misty Pramer, director of Next Generation Ministry said.
Over the past three years, the church has seen a growth in the bash. They will offer several different games and stations for families to visit from a photo booth, snow cones from Sno Biz, corn hole, four different bounce houses and small games for children. Attendees will be able to listen to music while getting free hot dogs and hamburgers.
Another part of the event is offering assistance to families who may need help with supplies including backpacks, lunch boxes, and other school supplies, according to Parmer.
The Church asks families who want to attend to stop by the registration table, fill out an information card and enter for door prizes.
“We have six nice backpacks that are stuffed that will be given away at random,” Pramer said.
Last year, the church served between 550-600 people during the event.
“We are expecting around the same this year, but we are always prepared and welcome for more,” she said. “(The church) does this in a discreet way so those in need can feel comfortable to ask, so I feel that’s really helped with reaching those in need.”
At the end of the event, the church donates any items not yet claimed to local schools so teachers can distribute them.
