No additional information was released by local law enforcement Monday morning in regards to information on the apparent murder of an Ole Miss student Saturday.

According to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department, the body of Alexandria “Ally” Kostial, 21, from St. Louis, Missouri was found in Harmontown near Sardis Lake.

According to Harmontown resident Jeremy Chance, the sheriff’s department has had a strong presence in Harmontown in recent days with multiple roadblocks and patrols in the area around the clock after a string of burglaries in the area.

In a press release Saturday, investigators said “foul play” appeared to have been involved in her death.

Kostial’s body was found near Sardis Lake in Harmontown in Lafayette County.

Kostial, a member of the Alpha Phi sorority, was working toward a bachelor’s degree in marketing in the School of Business Administration at the University of Mississippi, according to Rod Guajardo, associate director of Strategic Communications at Ole Miss.

Interim Chancellor Larry Sparks released a statement Sunday on her death.

“We are truly saddened by the death of Alexandria Kostial,” Ole Miss interim Chancellor Larry Sparks said in a statement. “Ally was a valued member of our campus community. We extend our deepest sympathy to her family, friends, and classmates and stand ready to support them during this time. We appreciate the work of the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department and coroner as they conduct their investigation.”

Also on Sunday, Kostial’s father, Keith Kostial said he was informed of his daughter’s death by the Sunset Hills Missouri Police Department who said Ally was the victim of a homicide.

A graduate of Lindbergh High School in Missouri, she was attending summer classes and teaching fitness classes at Ole Miss at the time of her death.

The Sheriff’s Department said a deputy discovered Kostial’s body at about 10:23 a.m. Saturday while making a “routine patrol” in Harmontown.
