From office supplies to home essentials, Fred’s offers community members a variety of goods; however, the Water Valley community will have to shop elsewhere soon to find many of their essentials.
The Water Valley store—located at 409 Duncan Street—is closing its doors to the community, according to a press release from the corporation. No clarification was given on a specific date.
The Memphis-based retailer announced Friday an additional 129 closures which includes 35 stores in Mississippi.
According to a statement released in May by the store, Fred’s is set to close several of its “underperforming” locations, including the one in Oxford, “as part of an ongoing effort to rationalize its store footprint.”
Additional closings include:
Baldwyn – 441 N Fourth St.
Bruce – 403 W. Calhoun St.
Eupora – 300 SR-9
Fulton – 1409 Adams St.
Iuka – 615 Highway 25 South
Louisville – 502 South Church
New Albany – 126 W. Main St.

As a part of the store’s country-wide closing procedures, it is having a store sale for liquidation purposes.
“These additional store closures are a difficult, but necessary step in the continued restructuring of Fred’s,” said Joseph Anto, Fred’s Chief Executive Officer.
