Ole Miss Athletics released on Monday the women’s basketball team will travel to Texas Tech Dec. 4 to take part in the 2019 Big 12/SEC Challenge.
Texas Tech is coming off a 14-17 campaign in 2018-19. They will return each of their top-three scorers from last season including Big 12 Freshman of the Year Chrislyn Carr (17.9 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 3.8 APG, 1.6 SPG, .370 FG, .306 3PT, .813 FT), Honorable Mention All-Big 12 member Brittany Brewer (16.6 PPG, 9.1 RPG, 2.3 BPG, 1.2 APG, .528 FG, .343 3PT) and Sydney Goodson (10.9 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 3.1 APG, 1.6 SPG, .389 FG, .377 3PT, .787 FT). The Lady Raiders are coached by former Ole Miss assistant Marlene Stollings, who will enter her second season at Texas Tech.
The inaugural Challenge was held in 2014, with the first 10-game slate occurring in 2016. The SEC edged the Big 12, 6-4, that year, with the conferences splitting the Challenge, 5-5, the past two seasons. Each season 10 institutions from the SEC will square off against all 10 schools from the Big 12. The format includes five home games on campus sites for each conference per season, and teams will not face the same opponent twice. Exact times and TV designations will be released when available.
The Rebels have been a part of the Challenge twice – against No. 16 West Virginia on Dec. 4, 2016, that resulted in a 66-61 loss and against TCU last season in a 55-50 heartbreaker at home in The Pavilion on Nov. 29.
Ole Miss has faced Texas Tech three times on the court with the Rebels holding a 2-1 advantage.
