OHS Cheer Receives Multiple Accolades at UCA Camp

The Oxford High School Varsity cheerleading squad attended camp at The University of Mississippi on June 20-23 alongside twenty-six cheerleading squads from 6 states: Mississippi, Louisiana, Missouri, Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky.

At this Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) camp, cheerleading squads spend three days learning new routines in various categories to compete on the last day of camp: Rally Routine, Cheer, Sideline, and Game Day.

The OHS Chargers were recipients of all Superiors in their daily evaluations and were invited to participate in the 2019 Citrus Bowl half-time show. The Chargers brought home hardware in several categories:

Leadership Award– the most prestigious award given at camp and voted on by all squads in attendance

Rally Routine-1st Place Champion

Cheer-2nd place

Spirit Stick– every day

Jump Off Winner-Makyla Brannon

Mascot Leadership & Jump Off Winner– Pearson Stevens

Pin it Forward Awards– Recognized for a quality that has made them stand out: Ansley McDaniel, Beckham McCord, Mary Mac Parnell and Julia Tann.

In addition to the many accolades the cheer team received, seven cheerleaders were also awarded All-American status and now have the opportunity to attend the London, England New Year’s Day parade: Ann Michael Armstrong, Makyla Brannon, Lucy Case, Cofield Collins, Christina Evans, Lauren Nelson and Julia Tann.

“I am so proud of these girls, they worked tirelessly and stayed focused. We were proud to welcome all the other squads to our city,” said cheer sponsor Mylene Cromwell. “We are looking forward to a great year.”
