Kevin Moore Scholarship Endowment Honors His Legacy

An endowment has been established in memory of Kevin Moore, a 1982 graduate of the University of Mississippi, to support selected students at the School of Business Administration.

“The Kevin Phelps Moore Memorial Scholarship Endowment honors in perpetuity the memory of Kevin Phelps Moore,” said Angela Brown, UM senior director of development. “The scholarship will support deserving full-time students in the School of Business Administration.”

The Moore family’s wish is to honor Kevin’s life, interests and achievements.

“Through the creation of this scholarship, our goal is that a part of his legacy would live on through the lives of those who receive the scholarship as they seek to grow in knowledge at the University of Mississippi,” said Jerilou Moore, Kevin’s sister-in-law and a UM professor of teacher education.

Kevin, the third of four sons, grew up in Oakland. His two older brothers worked in agriculture and attended Mississippi State University. However, Kevin was not interested in pursuing a career in agriculture, which led him to attend Ole Miss, where he studied marketing.

“Aside from his relationship with God and his family, the University of Mississippi was Kevin’s most passionate pursuit,” said Kevin’s wife, Pam Moore. “Kevin placed a high value on education and saw higher education as an important step towards long-term success in the workplace.”

Kevin believed that a good education is vital to a person’s success in life.

The endowment is a fitting way to honor Kevin’s memory, given the hard work and encouraging spirit he demonstrated throughout his life said Walt Moore, Kevin’s older brother.

“Kevin would encourage recipients, and others who find success, to pay it forward, and there is no better way than through the University of Mississippi,” Walt said.

The School of Business Administration was where Kevin began his professional journey and pursued his passions without limitations. These are the reasons the Moore family chose full-time business students for the scholarship.

Additionally, Kevin used the business knowledge he learned at Ole Miss to propel him in life, and he encouraged others to do the same.

“Kevin loved his career in investments and was passionate about teaching his clients how to be successful in the long term with their finances,” said Mary Belle Moore, Kevin’s mother. “In choosing business students, it is our hope that these students would be guided in their educational pursuits to one day also be able to help individuals in a positive way in their area of expertise.”

Life’s little moments were not lost on Kevin, an avid Rebel sports fan who was a football, basketball and baseball season ticket holder. He frequently reminisced about his time at Ole Miss with his family.

“He often talked about his great memories of being a student there, his time as a sorority houseboy, the professors who influenced him most and the friendships that were formed there,” Pam said. “Kevin and his wife, Pam, began dating while students there.”

Kevin’s love for Ole Miss is still shared by Pam and by his three daughters and two sons-in-law: Meredith Moore, Lauren and Wade Broyles, and Emily and Chris Haynes, three of whom are Ole Miss graduates.

“Our desire is that the long-term impact of this gift will be the success of many students,” Pam said. “We hope that the individuals who receive the gift will embody the same love and genuine spirit of Ole Miss as Kevin did.”

The Kevin Phelps Moore Memorial Scholarship Endowment is open to gifts from individuals and organizations. Checks, with the endowment noted in the memo line, may be mailed to the University of Mississippi Foundation, 406 University Ave., Oxford, MS 38655. Gifts also can be made online at https://give.olemiss.edu.
