Two Arrested for Multiple DUIs in Separate Incidents
The Oxford Police Department arrested two men this week for having three or more previous DUI convictions.
A DUI becomes a felony charge when the driver has two or more DUI convictions.
On Saturday, OPD received a call about a driver who appeared to be under the influence.
Officers pulled over a vehicle, driven by Blake Marquis, 38, Abbeville and began an investigation. During the stop, officers learned that Marquis had at least three prior DUI convictions on his record. He was arrested and transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center where he was charged with DUI-Fourth. He was given a bond of $10,000; however, since he was out of jail after a previous felony conviction MDOC placed a hold on him.
On Monday, officers pulled over a vehicle on West Jackson Avenue that was driving carelessly.
The driver, Datrel Williamson, 31, of Hattiesburg had two previous DUI convictions on his record. A DUI investigation was conducted and Williamson was arrested and charged with DUI-Third, speeding, careless driving, no driver’s license and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
He was taken to the Detention Center and booked on a $5,000 bond.
