Ole Miss women’s basketball head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin announced the addition of Donnetta Johnson to the Rebels basketball team. Johnson is coming to Oxford after transferring from Georgia. She will have to sit out the 2019-20 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

The 5-11 guard from Queens, New York was a contributor for the Lady Bulldogs as a freshman in 2018-19, playing in 27 games with eight starts.

“Donnetta is not only a talented athlete, but also a talented individual,” McPhee-McCuin said. “I am so excited that she will be joining our family. As we build this 2020 class, she exemplifies the level of player we want here at Ole Miss. She will be embraced by the Oxford community, and we look forward to helping her maximize her full potential in every aspect of her life.”

Johnson earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors following a win against No. 13 Tennessee, knocking down a crucial three-pointer that kick-started a rally to tie the game. She had a career-high 11 points against Mercer, a game in which she scored five straight points in the final minutes of the game to help lift Georgia to victory.

Johnson was a three-star prospect out of Baldwin High School, ranking as the No. 28 guard nationally by ESPN. She was named to the ELITE 60 Team by Prospects Nation, and was part of two AA Long Island titles in 2017 and 2018. She missed her junior year of high school with a knee injury, but returned in strong fashion to earn First-Team All-County and All-State honors.

She joins a 2020 Rebel signing class put together by McPhee-McCuin and her staff that now stands at eight additions: freshman signees Jayla Alexander, Sarah Dumitrescu and Tai-Yanna Jackson, junior college transfers Dominique Banks and Valerie Nesbitt, and preferred walk-ons Jordan Berry and Bryn Parker. Returning for the Rebels are redshirt senior Torri Lewis, junior Deja Cage in her first year of eligibility with the Rebels, and sophomores Gabby Crawford, Iyanla Kitchens, Mimi Reid and Taylor Smith.
