Della Davidson Teacher Awarded OSD Employee of the Year

The Oxford School District recognized Shalayne VanSickle, a 3rd grade teacher at Della Davidson Elementary, as OSD Employee of the Year at Monday’s board meeting.

Della Davidson Elementary teacher Shalayne VanSickle was awarded OSD Employee of the Year at Monday night’s board meeting. 

VanSickle has been an educator for nine years, devoting seven of those to the Oxford School District.

She served as English Language Arts (ELA) co-chair, the yearbook sponsor, and as a member of our Standards Based Grading team. She is from Senatobia and graduated from Delta State University with a double major in special education and elementary education.

“I am beyond humbled to receive this recognition,” VanSickle said. “I am so thankful to work in this wonderful district and so fortunate to have found my place at Della. It is such a privilege to be part of such an amazing team of teachers and administrators.”

Colleagues used words like “amazing, patient and inspiring” to describe VanSickle. 

“Ms. VanSickle is a dedicated teacher and is always looking for ways to improve her teaching. She is a great team player and provides support and encouragement for her English Language Arts (ELA) team. We are so lucky to have her at Della!” one teacher wrote. 

Throughout the school year, each school campus and department has the opportunity to select an Employee of the Week. At the end of the year, each campus votes for its Employee of the Year. The entire district then votes on the overall Employee of the Year. This award is given based on nominations and votes from peers.
