Della Davidson Teacher Named Employee of the Year

The Oxford School District recognized Shalayne VanSickle, a third-grade teacher at Della Davidson Elementary, as OSD Employee of the Year at Monday’s board meeting.

VanSickle has worked nine years in education — seven of those years with the Oxford School District.

She served as ELA co-chair this year, serves as the yearbook sponsor, and served as a member of our Standards Based Grading team. She is from Senatobia and graduated from Delta State University with a Double major in Special Education/Elementary Education.

Colleagues used words like “amazing, patient and inspiring” to describe VanSickle. Comments from nomination letters about VanSickle can be read here.

Throughout the school year, each school campus and department has the opportunity to select an Employee of the Week. At the end of the year, each campus votes for their Employee of the Year from which the entire district votes on overall Employee of the Year. This award is given based totally on nominations and votes from peers.

VanSickle said she was humbled to receive the recognition.

“I am so thankful to work in this wonderful district and so fortunate to have found my place at Della,” she said. “It is such a privilege to be part of such an amazing team of teachers and administrators. I am blessed to be a part of the OSD and Della family.”
