Oxford Crime & Emergency Reports From May 17-19, 2019

The following reports were made May 17-19, 2019, by city and county law enforcement agencies, unless otherwise indicated.

Oxford Police Department issued 18 tickets, investigated eight wrecks and the following reports:
1 911 hang-up
23 alarms
3 ambulance assists
3 animal complaints
1 burglary
4 careless driving complaints
2 civil matters
4 credit card frauds
6 disturbing the peace complaints
1 fire department assist
2 harassment complaints
1 improper parking
1 K9 search
2 larcenies
1 littering
2 lost property complaints
3 malicious mischief complaints
3 motorist assists
1 other agency assist
2 property damages
1 public drunk
1 shoplifting
2 simple assaults
5 suspicious activities
3 suspicious people
2 suspicious vehicles
1 vehicle search
8 welfare checks

OPD officers made the following arrests:
1 DUI
1 DUI, no driver’s license and open container
1 DUI-second, suspended driver’s license, no insurance, one headlight and possession of drug paraphernalia
2 for possession of drug paraphernalia
1 possession of drug paraphernalia, no seat belt and no insurance
1 possession of drug paraphernalia and running a stop sign
1 possession of drug paraphernalia and no seat belt
2 public drunks
1 suspended driver’s license and no insurance

Lafayette Sheriff’s Department investigated two wrecks and the following reports:
2 agency assists
4 alarms
5 animal complaints
1 civil matter
4 disturbances
1 fraud
6 follow-ups
1 grand larceny
2 juvenile complaints
1 malicious mischief
1 noise complaint
2 petty thefts
6 reckless driving complaints
4 road obstructions
5 service calls
2 suspicious activities
3 suspicious persons
3 suspicious vehicles
3 transports
1 trespassing
1 unauthorized use of vehicle
1 vandalism
4 welfare concerns
1 911 hangup
1 child custody

Deputies made the following arrests:
2 for possession of drug paraphernalia
1 possession of marijuana less than an ounce
1 contempt warrant

University Police Department issued 11 tickets investigated one wreck and the following reports:
1 vandalism to a vehicle
1 escort
1 suspicious person

Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls:
5/17 – 9:04 a.m. – BMH – someone stuck on an elevator
5/17 – 9:33 a.m. – #2 Hilltop – assisted EMS with patient lift
5/17 – 10:14 a.m. – Chi Omega House – workers activated a duct detector
5/17 – 2:13 p.m. – 1709 Jefferson Ave. – medical call –  monitored patient until EMS arrived
5/17 – 3:58 p.m. – McElroy – wreck with no injuries
5/17 – 4:26 p.m. – #2 Hilltop – assisted EMS with patient lift again
5/17 – 5:54 p.m. – Old Taylor Road from the south side of the bridge to the north side – someone spilled cooking oil – stood by for street department to bring sand
5/18 – 4:13 p.m. – Chi Omega house – workers still cleaning the duct detectors
5/19 – 12:45 a.m. – Chancellor’s House Hotel – smell of gas – outside gas lanterns flames were out causing a gas leak
5/19 – 6:51 a.m. – Hotworks – fire on top of a sauna unit – caused by faulty wiring – FD extinguished the small fire
5/20 – 1:06 a.m. – Wilson Art – call cancelled
5/20 – 6:49 a.m. – 2500 Old Taylor road – assisted EMS putting a wheelchair patient back in her car
