Lafayette County School District Superintendent Adam Pugh will be honored Friday by the UM School of Education for his service in education.
Pugh will be awarded the Practitioner of Distinction Award at 4:30 p.m. on Friday at the Inn at Ole Miss as part of the UM School of Education Hall of Fame Ceremony.
The school created the award in 2017 to recognize mid-career educators who demonstrate exemplary work in their field and a measurable and positive service in education.
This honor is reserved for a select few alumni who uphold the highest standards in the education profession.
The UM Education Alumni Advisory Board selected Pugh from nominations submitted earlier this year.
“I am very honored to be selected for this recognition,” Pugh said Wednesday. “There are so many people who have guided me throughout my career who are much more deserving than I. I am truly blessed to have worked with numerous outstanding educators over the years.”
Pugh has served as the superintendent for the Lafayette County School District since 2011.
Prior, he served as superintendent for the Pontotoc City School District for two years. From 2002-2009, he was the principal at Lafayette High School. Earlier in his career, he served as principal at Webster High School and South Pontotoc Attendance Center. He began his teaching career in 1990 as a teacher in Eupora.
Pugh earned his bachelor’s degree in 1989 from Mississippi State University and his master’s degree from MSU in 1995. He earned his doctorate in 2009 from the University of Mississippi.
He and his wife, Kim, have three children – Zach, a student at Ole Miss, Andrew, a student at Lafayette High School and Claire Anne, a student a Lafayette Middle School.
