Amy Elizabeth Dempsey Tidwell, 45, an acute care nurse practitioner at Urgent Care Clinic of Oxford for the last eight years, died Monday at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

Amy Tidwell

Born in Metairie, Lousiana, she is “known for her larger than life personality and her smile that brightened every room she entered. Her laugh was contagious and she put her heart and soul into everything she did. Celebrating her life seems only natural to all who knew and loved her,” states her obituary.

Tidwell served as an adjunct nursing instructor at Northwest Mississippi Community College. She was a member of the MS Nursing Association and the Junior Auxiliary of Oxford. She spent her spare time reading, participating in photography, enjoying her work in the flower beds, spending time with her children and traveling with her husband.

She also spent time working with various volunteer organizations including Yellow Leaf Baptist Church where she was an active member.

Tidwell leaves behind her husband, Will Tidwell of Oxford; two daughters, Sarah Beth Tidwell of Oxford and Alex Tidwell of Boston; one son, Ethan Tidwell of Oxford; her mother, Susan Dempsey of Oxford; one sister, Lawrie Williams of New Orleans; one brother, Casey Dempsey of Atlanta, GA; and a grandson, Tyler Tidwell of Oxford, to whom she was “Nims.”

She preceded in death by her father, Larry Dempsey.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 18 at Coleman Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 19 at First Baptist Church of Oxford and interment will follow at 2 p.m., at Bakers Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Hernando.

Bro. Robert Allen and Bro. David Ard will officiate. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.
