A new Dollar General will be built on Old Taylor Road in front of the Faulkner Flats development.

Plans are in the works for a new Dollar General on Old Taylor Road.

Developer David Blackburn said he expects to break ground on the new store this summer.

“We hope to have it open by the end of the year,” Blackburn said last week.

It will be the third Dollar General built by Blackburn Holdings, which owns the Dollar Generals on Old Sardis Road (Highway 314) and Highway 30. It will be the seventh Dollar General in Lafayette County.

The store on Old Taylor Road will be located within the existing Faulkner Flats’ commercial development in front of the residential area.

Last week, the development gained approval from the Oxford Planning Commission for a special exception to build a one-story commercial building in the Traditional Neighborhood District that requires a mixed-use, two-story development.

Oxford planning staff is currently reviewing the site plan for the store and recommended the approval for the special exception.

“A Dollar General will provide the surrounding neighborhoods with the opportunity to access everyday necessities, thus potentially reducing the number of trips taken on Old Taylor Road,” stated planning staff in the application.

God forbid they leave enough room to widen that road!
