Crawfish season is finally here and many vendors in Oxford are preparing for the increase of business.
Landshark Crawfish—located on Jackson Avenue—has already sold more than a thousand pounds of crawfish within the last week. Co-owner Dylan Hults believes that the increase of customers comes from the idea that crawfish is a great way to bring people together.
“It means good times [and] being outside. You know, getting to hang out with everybody by the table and eat crawfish,” Hults said.
There is also Rebel Boilers, located right off Highway 6 and South Lamar. Owner Fred Johnson said that he sees an increase in crawfish sales particularly after some type of social event such as a baseball game.
Many people who are not experienced with purchasing crawfish struggle with deciding how much to buy. Johnson said that number varies from person-to-person.
“Usually a person will get three pounds,” Johnson said. “But sometimes, people just want a snack and they’ll get one pound. People who drink alcohol or drink beer with it will get five to 10 pounds because it just naturally goes with it.”
Not only does Oxford take pride in their boiled crawfish, there are also multiple restaurants that sell fried crawfish as entrees.
Boure Restaurant on the Square, as well as Soul Fish Cafe on Lamar Court both offer these options.
For those who look forward to eating crawfish the old fashioned way, be sure to find one of the local vendors here in Oxford. Also, don’t forget to pinch, peel and repeat.
