Oxford High School Tennis Coach Louis Nash reached a milestone in his coaching career on March 27 when he attained his 500th victory. His team defeated hometown foes, the Lafayette Commodores, 6-1 at the John Leslie Tennis Courts.
This season, Oxford is undefeated with four matches remaining until the state tournament.
“I got on the bus with a lot of good players,” Nash said. “(We had) a lot of good matches and a lot of good players.”
Nash said this year’s team exceeded his expectations.
“We have been able to beat the teams that we have defeated with the lineup that we have put out on the court and have been fortunate to win matches,” he said.
The 2019 squad has younger players in the lineup, according to Nash, who are mostly 7th-10th graders.
Nash arrived to Oxford in 2002 and, during his tenure with the Chargers, has accrued 308 victories to only 29 losses.
Over his career, Nash said he has been fortunate to have been at three different schools with supportive tennis communities.
“You may not always remember all the 500 wins, but you will never forget the 54 losses,” Nash said. “The state championships mean more than the 500th win victory. ”
