All 32 NFL teams were represented at the Manning Center last Friday morning as 17 former Ole Miss Rebels showcased their talents in hopes of hearing their names called during the NFL Draft.
Over the past few seasons, the Rebels have been known for a high octane offense with a stable of wide receivers who dub themselves as the NWO (Nasty Wide Outs) with A.J. Brown, D.K. Metcalf and DaMarkus Lodge.
The three did not take part in most of the timed events because they did them in Indianapolis at the beginning of March.
Every member of the NWO said the event was special because they got to be on the field together all at one time.
“The memories that we created on the field will last a lifetime,” Brown said. “I will miss my brothers, miss playing against them.”
Metcalf was impressive on the bench press in Indianapolis with 27 reps at 225 lbs. The Oxford, Mississippi native followed that up with the second fastest 40-yard dash at 4.33 seconds, only behind Ohio State’s Parris Campbell with 4.31 seconds.
Metcalf said he wanted to stay home, play for the Rebels and be a hometown hero.
“(I wanted to) stay home playing college football where my dad played and do the best I could while I was here,” Metcalf said.
Quarterback Jordan Ta’amu was sharp and on point to his receivers on the day.
“I felt pretty confident,” Ta’amu said. “(The receivers) did an amazing job catching the ball wherever it went and I felt pretty hot out there.”
In addition to Metcalf, Brown, Ta’amu and Lodge, several other Rebels took the field on Friday: Floyd Allen, Detric Bing-Dukes, Ross Donelly, Victor Evans, Javion Hamilton, Dawson Knox, Greg Little, C.J. Moore, Javon Patterson, Jordan Sims, Alex Weber, Ken Webster, Zedrick Woods.
These players now wait to hear their names called during the NFL Draft that gets underway on Thursday, April 25 at 8 p.m.
