Photo Gallery: National Active Minds Organization Sends Silence Packing

Published

on

Send Silence Packing—a traveling exhibit hosted by the National Active Minds Organization—made its annual appearance on the Ole Miss campus Tuesday to raise awareness about mental health, inspire action for suicide prevention and connect viewers to mental health resources.

The exhibit includes personal stories attached to backpacks from individuals who have lost a loved one to suicide.

All stories on display are reviewed and revised in accordance with evidence-based public health practices, according to the organization’s website. The organization removes discussion of means, the nature of the death, and any content that glorifies negative or inappropriate coping behavior.

Active Minds staff and volunteers are on hand at each stop to discuss the importance of knowing the signs of suicide, intervening when a friend is in distress, and the different ways to find help.
