Lafayette County is mourning the loss of a bright-eyed little girl with an infectious smile who died on March 15.
La’Konjuwa RyNeke’ Rogers died at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital from complications of a severe asthma attack that led to a seizure. She was a sixth-grader at Lafayette Middle School.
The daughter of Linda King and Willie S. “Skeeter” Rogers Jr., La’Konjuwa loved to read and play dress up, according to her aunt, Konjuwa Hilliard.
“She was very special to me because she was named after me,” Hilliard said.
She also is survived by two sisters, her grandparents, aunts, uncles and several first cousins whom she loved to play with.
A fundraiser was started by Hilliard through Facebook Fundraising to help the family with funeral expenses. As of noon Tuesday, about $435 had been raised.
LMS Principal Chad Chism described La’Konjuwa as a shy but sweet girl.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 23 at L. Hodges Funeral Service, 38-F, Highway 334 in Oxford. The funeral service will be held Sunday, March 24 at 2 p.m., at the Tallahatchie-Oxford Missionary Baptist Association Building on Highway 334. Burial will follow at West Spring Hill M.B. Church. L. Hodges Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Prayers for peace for this family. The loss of a child has got to be one of the worst tragedies any family can ever endure.
