5 Things in Oxford to do with Your Furry Friend!


1. Go on a walk

The Whirl Pool Trail

The Whirl Pool Trail, also known as the South Campus Rail Trail, is a beautiful place to bike, run, or walk with your dog. The great thing about this trail, is that you never have to walk to same path. You can travel down the main gravel path for a few miles, or you can veer off into the smaller trails in the woods. If you choose to explore, you may discover the ponds whirlpool has to offer or the mysterious hippie bus. Either way, you and your beloved pet are bond for an adventure and some good exercise.

Lamar Park                                                                                                                    

Pat Lamar Park is a large park that was designed as an outdoor arboretum. It offers paved walking trails and sites to see as you circle around the park. On your stroll, you and your pet companion will come across a pond and many different art sculptures.

Avent Park

If you’re in a hurry, Avent Park has a short walking trail. This park may be small but it offers a lot. You will see children on the playground, people playing tennis, eating in the picnic pavilion, or even playing baseball. You can walk around the trail multiple times or just once if you are looking for a less time-consuming activity.

Rowan Oak

Explore the grounds of William Faulkner’s home any day from dusk until dawn. You cannot enter the home with your pet, but the home sits on over 29 acres for you to roam about. Not only is it beautiful, but it is an opportunity for you and your pet to visit a historic site together.

2. Play Outdoors

Mississippi Critterz Dog Park

This dog park is free to the public and provides an opportunity for your pup to socialize with other dogs. The park has two fenced in areas where your dog can run around leash free. It has water bowls if your dog gets thirsty, and they have picnic tables if you decide to bring some work to do. The park also provides doggy bags so you can clean up after your pet.

Pampered Paws Dog Park

If you are worried about your pet contracting something from other dogs, then a paid membership to Pampered Paws dog park is the way to go. You must register to be a member of this park and provide proof that your dog is current on vaccinations, receives monthly heart worm prevention, and that he/she is spayed/neutered if older than 7 months. you can find more information on how to register on their website.

Sardis Lake

Sardis lake beach, commonly referred to “end of the road” beach, is a wonderful place to take your dog for a swim. You can park your car in the designated parking area and walk down to the beach. Your dog will be able to explore the outdoors off leash, and you can both take a dip when you get too hot. This is a popular destination in the winter months, so you and your dog may meet some new friends.

You can get to this part of Sardis by driving down County Road 314 until it dead ends.

3. Go Out on the Town

Volta Taverna

Volta is a tasty Greek restaurant with a nice deck to bring you pet. You can eat some lunch or grab a margarita with your best friend, your pet. The deck is covered and the staff will bring your pet a dog bowl, so you don’t have to worry about he/she getting over heated too quickly.

Soulshine

If you’re in the mood for some good pizza, this is the place to go. You and your pup can stroll around the square then take a seat on the deck of Soulshine. They servers will bring you and your pup some water, and you can both cool down under the awning with fans.

Penny Bar

This bar is all indoors, so it is a great place to go if you want to sit inside. It’s located below Moe’s, but you can still order food from the Moe’s menu. You can also search for the one dime mixed in with all the pennies on the bar top. No matter the weather, you and your pup will be able to comfortably enjoy your outing.

4. Go Shopping

Hollywood Feed

This is a one stop shop for your pup. It only sells high-grade food to keep your pet feeling and looking great. If your pet doesn’t like, you can bring it back even if it is opened.

PetSmart is a well-known store that offers items for various types of pets. Home Depot

Home depot is great place to pick up things for building, organizing your home, crafting, or gardening. It is also a great place to take your dog on an indoor stroll. You can browse items to spruce up your home, and give your dog some exercise in the air conditioning.

Pampered Paws, aside from having its own dog park, is also a resort and spa. They offer various types of suites and grooming options, that usually come with a bandana and doggie cologne, to keep your dog comfortable and look good.

Delta Dog

Delta Dog is another great option where your pet can get pampered. They offer two different sweets, and the luxury suite includes a flat panel tv just for your pet. They offer good grooming rates, and you can even get your pup a massage. If you don’t have time to take them, don’t worry, Delta Dog offers their own shuttle service.
