Ole Miss Softball head coach Mike Smith became the all-time winningest coach in program history last weekend after a 2-1 victory over Sam Houston State at the Texas Invitational.
The victory gave Smith his 154th win as a Rebel.
“It is pretty special,” Smith said. “It means one of two things—you have been around a long time or you have had successful programs in the short amount of time that you have been here. I am just thankful that I have had the opportunity to be at Ole Miss and have a group of girls that have been successful and have bought into the process of what we are trying to do here.”
Smith said his players ultimately helped him achieve the milestone.
Smith arrived in Oxford in 2014 after being announced as the fifth all-time head coach of the program. He has been rewriting record books on the diamond ever since.
In 2017 the Rebels won 42 games, claiming a sweep through the SEC tournament to win the championship. They also won the Oxford Regional over Arizona State and North Carolina to advance to super regionals.
Ole Miss made back-to-back appearances in the NCAA tournament last season but fell to Arizona State in the Tempe Regional.
