OPD Reports Four Felony Arrests in the Past Week
The Oxford Police Department made several felony arrests over the last few days.
On Feb. 20, officers took a report from LaRousse Salon and Spa that an employee was allegedly stealing money. The owner reported that Hannah Mason, 24, of Oxford was seen taking money out of a cash register. After looking at previous financial records, the owner determined Mason allegedly has stolen more than $1,000. A warrant was issued for Mason’s arrest. However, she turned herself into OPD on Tuesday. She was booked at the Lafayette County Detention Center where she received a $2,500 bond by a Justice Court judge.
On Feb. 19, investigators took a report of an alleged sexual battery that occurred on Feb. 18. After an investigation, a warrant was issued and served on Joshua Starks, 25, of Memphis for one count of sexual battery. He was arrested on Feb. 20 and booked into the detention center on a $5,000 bond.
On Dec. 23, 2018, officers responded to a residence on the west side of the city for a reported burglary. The victim had video evidence showing the suspect, later identified as Sammie Gross, 39 of Oxford, going into their truck. On the video, Gross is seen removing a pistol from the inside of the vehicle then leaving with the firearm. Investigators issued two warrants for Gross the same day for auto burglary and possession of a firearm by a felon. On Monday, officers with the Water Valley Police Department apprehended Gross and transported him to the detention center. He was given a bond of $25,000.
On Jan. 31, officers took a shoplifting report from Walmart about a male, later identified as Jacob Chatham, 28 of Corinth, who attempted to push a cart with more than a $1,000 worth of items out of the store. Chatham was confronted by Loss Prevention Employees and fled in his vehicle. Loss Prevention signed an affidavit and a warrant was issued for felony shoplifting. On Feb. 21, Chatham was arrested by the Tupelo Police Department and was transported to the detention center where his bond was set at $2,500.
