In the last week leading up to the deadline to qualify for local and state elections, District 1 supervisor Democratic candidate Brent Larson got his first opponent after Anthony Cox qualified as a Republican last week to run for the same seat.
Current District 1 Supervisor Kevin Frye is running for Mississippi Senate District 9, leaving his supervisor position open with no incumbent.
Larson was the only candidate qualified to run for Frye’s seat for several weeks. Cox was the only additional candidate to qualify last week for any of the local races.
This is the last week people can qualify for elections. The deadline is 5 p.m., March 1.
