The Pantry Offers Thanks For Successful Empty Bowls Event
Barbara J. Smith
Empty Bowls organizer
The Pantry Board would like to offer our sincere thanks to all of the wonderful people that supported and volunteered to serve at our Empty Bowls Fundraiser 2019 on Feb. 7.
It was a great success, earning more than $21,000. Filling a bowl with soup for lunch seems such a simple task, but far too many people in our community have neither the bowl nor the soup! Empty Bowls helps to support the 14,000 visits provided yearly for our needy citizens.
We especially would like to thank the Oxford Conference Center, Director; Hayden Guest, Events Manager; Micah Quinn, and the staff for the use of their facility and especially for their help. Many thanks to Chaney’s Pharmacy and Cost Savers for incidentals.
Great big hugs and thanks to Ole Miss for their support throughout the years and all of the Ole Miss Mud Daubers; Professor Matt Long, Shelby Bickes, Will Booth, Ray Brown, Samara Dallaire, Kirstin Fowler, Rosa Gonzalez, Ti’anna Haing, Ashton Keen, Will McComb, Kendall Mcdonald, Maddie McHugh, Andrew Intyre, William Mckinney, Reggie Pickering, Bailey Pillow, Gabby Rush, Reagan Thames, and Alex Yu. Also our thanks and appreciation to Northwest Mississippi Community College Les Fauves Art Club Students.
Local potters: Ron Dale/Irondale Pottery, Yerger Andre, Ashley Chavis, Jennifer Pace/Pace Pottery, Chris Sneed, Mary C. Sexton, Coontown Pottery and Satterfield’s Pottery.
Great big hugs and thanks to our soup and bread donors.
Soups: Ajax, Boure’, The Blake, Camp Lake Stephens, City Grocery Group, Country Club of Oxford, Grit, Lenora’s, McAlister’s, McEwen’s, My Michelle’s, Newk’s, No Time 2 Cook, Oby’s, Old Venice Pizza, Oxford Canteen, Oxford School, Party Wait’n to Happen, Proud Larry’s, Rafter’s, Ravine, Saint Leo’s, Southern Stove & Tap, Tallahatchie Gourmet, Taylor Grocery Catering and Track 61.

This year once again, we took orders in advance from Oxford business and medical offices. Orders and preparation of the take-out orders: Chantel Kimbrell, Emily Shelton, Lauren Renfroe and Jessica Perkins. Deliveries were made by Ole Miss Sigma Chi Fraternity. Great idea and it was very successful.
Our very sincere thanks to Chef Scott Caradine, owner of Proud Larry’s, and his assistant Jon Myrick. Once again they helped to set up and keep our kitchen organized during the luncheon.
Thanks to all of our volunteers. We are all blessed to live in such a caring, generous Community!
