The Ole Miss Rebels kept the movement going with a 75-65 win over the Missouri Tigers inside the Pavilion on Saturday.
“We got exactly what we thought we would get,” Ole Miss coach Kermit Davis said. “(Martin) coaches them aggressively, and those guys stayed with him. When we got up 19, we kind of let our guard down, they never stopped.”
Ole Miss (18-7, 8-4 SEC) got a big production off the bench by senior Bruce Stevens who scored a team-high 17 points to help them push the winning streak to four-straight games.
“He’s got a physical presence, and he can stretch it and go out and make a three. He was 3 of 7 from three today,” Davis said. “I thought every one of his shots, maybe only one was not a good shot, but he gave us a good presence.”
Three other players for the red and blue scored in double figures as junior Breein Tyree add 14 points, sophomore Devontae Shuler tailed 12 and K.J. Buffen put in an additional 14 points.
Tyree continues to perform well from the free-throw line as he made 6-of-8 on the afternoon. As a team, Ole Miss shot 87 percent from the charity stripe.
Coach Davis’ squad scored 31 points off the bench against the Tigers.
Missouri was led in the game by Jordan Geist with 23 points while his teammate Xavier Pinton recorded 11 points and nine rebounds.
“(Geist) is a good player,” Davis said. “He has such great footwork. We don’t have rim protectors at the rim, as you see, but we block a shot every now and then.”
Missouri outrebounded the Rebels 37-21 in the contest.
Ole Miss returns to action on Tuesday as they travel to Columbia, South Carolina and take on the South Carolina Gamecocks.
“It is a big game. It really is,” Davis said. “I think we both know we aren’t going to win the SEC regular season championship, but there is so much to play for. But let me tell you, these double-byes, playing in the quarterfinals, it is a big game no doubt.”
Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. on SEC Network.
