Ole Miss and Texas A&M battled back and forth Wednesday night with the Rebels snapping a four game losing streak after a 75-71 victory.
“Again, it shows us the depth of this league that Texas A&M, with a really talented offensive team, played really hard,” Ole Miss coach Kermit Davis said.
Ole Miss (15-7, 5-4) got to the free-throw line were they have been very successful on the night. The Rebels knocked down 17 of 18 attempted shots.
The Rebels were led on the floor by junior Breein Tyree with 22 points. His teammates senior Terence Davis tailed 19 points while freshman Blake Hinson added 11 of his own.
Ole Miss opened the on fire from the floor as they started 5-for-6 against the Aggies.
In the first half, Ole Miss’ biggest lead was 13 points at the 13:47 mark. The Rebels were able to maintain the lead all through the first 20-minuets of action.
Before the buzzer could sound for half time, Ole Miss took a 37-36 advantage into the dressing room. Both teams shot over 50 percent in the half.
Once the two teams rejoined at the court for the second half of the game, Hinson drained a 3-pointer, but that would not stop Texas A&M to take its first lead of the game at the 18:04 mark leading to a 42-40 game.
At the end of the game the Rebel defense did not allow the Aggies to hit three field goals until 16 seconds remained. Until that point, they were 0-8 from the field.
“In the second half, we held them to 39 percent, and it was much lower than that at the last ten minutes so I was really proud of our team. I thought it was just more toughness on contested shots,” Davis said.
Texas A&M held the Rebels for the last 5:32 in the game without a field goal, but Ole Miss made all 10 free throws to close out the game.
Ole Miss returns to action on Saturday as they travel over to Athens to face the Georgia Bulldogs. Tip-off is set for Noon on SEC Network.
